Three suitcase colors help travelers avoid lost luggage

If you don’t want to grab the wrong luggage, you should avoid choosing suitcases in black, gray, and navy blue.

Lost or mistakenly taken luggage is one of the main reasons why travelers’ vacations are no longer complete. Therefore, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has suggested colors that travelers should not choose when buying suitcases. “If you want to ensure your luggage isn’t mistaken for someone else’s, then black, gray, and navy are colors to avoid,” a Ryanair representative said.

In addition, the airline also stated that passengers should create a distinctive highlight on their suitcases to avoid confusion on the conveyor belt, especially when the suitcase is one of the three colors mentioned above. “To quickly identify your luggage on the carousel, many passengers are advised to add a luggage tag or tie a brightly colored ribbon to the suitcase handle”.

This suggestion was made after a survey by the Economic Times revealed that black bags or suitcases are the most frequently lost type of luggage, based on the number of passenger reports.

The director of Germany’s Frankfurt Airport, Stefan Schulte, also suggested that people “should avoid using black luggage when traveling.” His airport staff, when helping customers search for lost luggage, often spend more time identifying black suitcases because they are very difficult to distinguish when placed next to each other.

Furthermore, dark tones make suitcases placed close together seem indistinguishable on the conveyor belt, especially when flights are full of checked baggage. As a result, passengers will also find it difficult to identify their correct suitcase, leading to picking up the wrong luggage.

Experts also point out that passengers should choose multi-colored suitcases. This not only helps you find your bag accurately on the conveyor belt but also helps airport staff easily identify luggage and return it to customers if it gets lost. For suitcase choices, many suggest travelers lean towards blue, green, pink, and purple – they pop without being over the top. Therefore, travelers still look elegant when bringing them to the airport.
