In the married life of Vietnamese people, when a guy and a girl get married, Vietnamese people call it a wedding ceremony or more simply, a wedding.
Traditional wedding procedures in Vietnam also include three rituals: the engagement ceremony, the engagement ceremony and the wedding ceremony.
1. Engagement ceremony
This is one of the important rituals. For this engagement ceremony to take place, the groom’s family must choose a good day and inform the bride’s family that they will come to propose. The bride’s family must agree to the friendly relationship between the two families so that everything that follows will go smoothly and completely.
The offerings on this engagement day are quite simple, including: Betel and areca nuts, tea, and candy, fruits in even quantities for the bride’s family to worship their ancestors.
Participants: Relatives from both families including the bride, groom, parents and siblings of the bride and groom.
The engagement ceremony begins with the bride’s family welcoming the groom’s family, they will prepare tea, medicine, candy, fruit, etc. to invite guests. Then the groom’s family will give the gifts to the bride’s family, the bride’s family will receive the gifts and bring them to the altar of the ancestors to burn incense.
The two families will then sit down to talk about choosing a good day and month and other procedures to prepare for the upcoming engagement and wedding ceremony.
2. Engagement
Engagement (also known as engagement ceremony, engagement ceremony) is an important ritual before marriage. Engagement is the time when the groom’s family brings gifts to the bride’s family to ask for marriage. After the engagement ceremony is completed, the two families will agree on a good day to hold the wedding ceremony for the bride and groom.
Engagement Ceremony
Is a wedding ceremony in which the groom’s family will prepare a number of gifts to give to the bride’s family to ask for the bride’s hand in marriage. Usually, the engagement gifts include: dowry money, dowry gifts and wedding jewelry.
Engagement costumes
During the engagement ceremony, the bride and groom will usually wear traditional ao dai and turban. You can order or rent. In addition, you also need to prepare costumes for both parents, as well as costumes for the groom’s and bride’s tray-carrying teams.
Home decoration
In the engagement ceremony, most people choose to hold it at home, because the engagement ceremony is compact, only includes close friends, and holding it at home is also convenient for burning incense.

Booking a party

3. Wedding (Wedding Ceremony)
This ceremony is among the most significant for the bride and groom. At this ceremony, both families invite guests to attend the party to eat and celebrate.
The bride’s family will hold a party 1 day before the wedding, in which the bride and groom will be present.
The groom’s family usually holds the party at home or in a restaurant or hotel. If the event is to take place at home, both families are required to discuss and plan in advance the order of proceedings, including the bride-asking ceremony, the ancestral ceremony, the formal greeting of both families, the water-pouring ritual, and the final souvenir photographs
Order of the wedding ceremony at home
On the pre-selected auspicious day and time, the groom and his family members will be invited to the bride’s house, bringing a wedding car and flowers to pick up the bride.
The bride is beautifully and splendidly made up in a wedding dress, while the groom usually wears a formal and polite suit.
Wedding ceremony at the bride’s house
The groom’s family will come to the bride’s house, both families will introduce the participants, then give betel leaves to ask for the bride and ask for permission for the groom to go to the room to pick up the bride.
After that, the bride and the groom will perform the ancestral ceremony at the bride’s house and the groom’s family will ask for permission to take the bride to the groom’s house. The bride’s family representative agrees to let the groom’s family pick up the bride.
Wedding ceremony at the groom’s house
When picking up the bride to the groom’s house, the bride and groom will light incense at the ancestral altar of the groom’s family.
After that, the groom’s representative will have a few words to say to the guests from both sides, the groom will lead the bride to greet the mother-in-law, greet the guests from both sides, give gifts and then enjoy a delicious banquet with the prepared entertainment program.
Wedding ceremony order at the hotel
Both families will be present at the hotel 30 minutes before the time to invite guests. The bride will come to the hotel to put on makeup, put on her wedding dress in the waiting room, everyone from both sides of the family will adjust their clothes together, check the gifts and then the bride, groom and their parents will welcome the guests.
